World-renowned graphic novel to be released in US this Fall.

For Immediate Release: BURBANK, CA—May 21st, 2014 — Magnetic Press announced today that they will be publishing the Award-winning graphic novel DOOMBOY created by internationally acclaimed writer and artist Tony Sandoval, to be translated into English for the first time in early Fall.  DOOMBOY was chosen as an Official Selection of the 2012 Festival d’Angouleme, the largest comic book festival in Europe and second largest comic book convention in the world, winning the “Coup de Coeur” prize awarded by the Youth Jury.  It has since been translated into several languages worldwide.  This is the first time the story will be available in English.

DOOMBOY tells the story of an ordinary, lonely teenager with an active imagination and a love of metal music.  When his girlfriend passes away suddenly, he decides to broadcast songs to her beyond the grave, playing his heart out under the secret name “Doomboy”.  What he doesn’t realize, however, is that those broadcasts are picked up all across town… and beyond.  Soon the music of Doomboy becomes legendary, and his innocent private life quickly turns inside out.

Written and illustrated by renowned artist Tony Sandoval, the book is a poignant coming of age tale mixed with a unique blend of cute character designs and dark fantasy, all presented in a lush watercolor style that has set Sandoval apart from the crowd.  DOOMBOY represents a wonderful introduction to his body of work, which includes other dark character dramas NOCTURNO, THE CORPSE AND THE COUCH, and his most recent French release, THE SEA SERPENT.

“I have waited for this moment for a while, and I think DOOMBOY is my favorite story I’ve written so far,” says Sandoval. “I am curious how the American market will accept DOOMBOY, because the market is very different from Europe, but of course I am very happy to see it released in English.”

“DOOMBOY blew people away when it was first released in Europe,” said Magnetic Press’s Publisher, Mike Kennedy, “It’s such a heartfelt story, but in no way ‘soft’.  You can practically feel the doom metal vibrating within each page and panel.  We can’t wait to introduce English-speaking audiences to Tony’s brand of subtle genius.”

The hardcover edition of DOOMBOY will be released in September, and will be available wherever graphic novels and books are sold.
