Recent interviews and articles:
  • Last August saw a long interview with Yers Truly in The Comics Journal (#207, I believe).  I’m honored to share the spotlight in that ish with talented super-scribe Garth Ennis.  Ennis—whom I don’t know but hope to meet someday—and I both love the late, great Bill Hicks, so it’s a privilege to be in the same edition.

  • Here's a peek at the cover of that very special issue:

(For anyone curious as to who the heck the other folks on the cover are, here's the skinny: (l to r) on the steps: Rob, Sylvia, my wife Michele, Jen (a girl from Saint Mark's Comics), front row: just some cartoon character, Heidi MacDonald, an imp, me in all my glory, Dean Haspiel and Stephen DeStefano.)
"Warts and All: An Interview with Bob Fingerman" in the online periodical Dirtzine.

All you college students should check out the On Campus edition of Entertainment Weekly, in which I have a one page color comic strip skewering some popular trends.  Also in the pipeline are a couple of CD covers, "Welcome to Ground Zero", a hardcore punk compilation from the label of the same name, as well as the debut album "Star People . . . Are Coming" from the titular NY concept rockers Star People.  That one also has a gatefold poster by me.  I also have been writing a four issue mini-series for Dark Horse Comics’ Zombie World, entitled "Winter’s Dregs", to be illustrated by hot talent Tommy Lee Edwards, of Gemini Blood and currently Moon Knight fame.  His art is really great, so this should be one fine piece of work.

    WHITE LIKE SHE Graphic Novel

......Fantagraphics Books collects Bob Fingerman's acclaimed miniseries WHITE LIKE SHE into a book that deals with some of the most burning social issues of our time.
......Utilizing the sci-fi concept of brain transplants as a launching point, WLS delves into the lives of a cast of diverse characters.  Luther Joyce, a middle-aged African-American custodian at a nuclear power facility, is trapped during a core flare-up, which disfigures him horribly.  When technicians discover his prone body, they assume him dead and dispose of him.  When Luther washes up on Manhattan's Upper West Side, he decides to pursue a doctor who specializes in brain transplants in the hopes of securing such an operation.
......Simultaneously, Louella Schwartz, a radical-left, Jewish teenager, also decides to visit said doctor — her purpose: to assassinate him.  When their paths cross, nothing will ever be the same again for all parties concerned.
......Delving into the taboo topics of race relations, political correctness, gender roles and sexual orientations, WLS paints an uneasy satirical portrait of life in the '90s.

    GN Second Printing

Well, kids, I’m proud and happy to say that Minimum Wage, Book One is going into a second printing.  Since it is being slightly reformatted (to match the new MW, Book Two), I thought I’d take advantage of the fact that the cover art has to be reshot and do a little retouching.  I always thought Sylvia’s face on that cover was a little . . . well, to be blunt: ugly.  So I’ve given her some cosmetic surgery via the ol’ palette and brush and made her (I think) much more appealing.  Here’s a wee preview of the new, improved cover art.  The new printing will also sport self-wraps (cover flaps), instead of the paper jacket, and snappy new end-papers.  There are no more copies of the first printing, so keep your eyes peeled for the new improved version later this year.
